Kamado Tanjiro’s sword is a black Katana.
The Nichirin Sword is an indispensable weapon in defeating Demons. Each Nichirin sword will have different colors and shapes representing their owner. Nichirin blades have a distinct color when first used by its owner, that’s why they are also known as “Color Changing Swords”. When Tanjiro first received his sword, he opened it and the sword turned black.
NOTE SPOILER: However, in the manga while fighting Muzan, Tanjiro used Sun Breathing and his black Nichirin sword turned red, preventing the Demon King’s enhanced regeneration. (Chapter 113).
What does Tanjiro sword mean in Demon Slayer?
Not much is known about the user of the black blade but it is considered a bad omen as no one survives for too long. Kamado Tanjiro uses Water Breathing and Dance of the Fire God. There are many theories that black represents coal because Tanjiro’s previous job was selling coal. Others who believe that it symbolizes the Sun would explain its rarity as Sun Breathing is the most ancient and almost lost style. Enchantingly, black is the color that absorbs the most sunlight – a major weakness of demons.
